Recently,Organic Solar Cell Materials and Devices,co-authored byDr. Xi He, young teacher of Department of Nanotechnology, was officially published by Science Press. The book was selected as a book ofElectronic Science and Technology Frontier Series, was awarded project of National Key Publication and Press Plan project of the 13th five-year plan and National Publication Foundation project. Professor Zhang Chunfu and Dr. Chen Dazheng of School of Microelectronics co-authored the book, and Academician Hao Yue wrote preface for the book.
Energy keeps the world operating. In various approaches of energy utilization, directly converting solar energy into electricity or other forms of energy begins becoming one important approach to replace fossil fuel. The emergence of semiconductor solar photovoltaic devices has provided an effective way to generate electricity directly from solar energy. In recent years, semiconductor solar photovoltaic devices has been applied in various areas including centralized photovoltaic power stations and distributed photovoltaic systems, and has become an indispensable way of power generation in modern society. Among them, organic solar cells with photosensitive active layer made of organic materials are light, soft, translucent, and even transparent. Their materials have extensive source and their photoelectric characteristics are easy to regulate. What’s more, they can be widely manufactured with low cost. Apart from being used as regularpower generation device, organic solar cells have great potential in applications in fields including energy saving building integration and wearable devices, arising great interest in academic and industrial circles.
Academician Hao Yue pointed out in its preface that compared to silicon based solar cells which are mature in terms of theory, materials, device mechanism and application, organic solar cells are still at the exploring stage, and many theories are based on inorganic system. Under this circumstance, Dr. Xi He’s team has been studying theories and making experiments with organic cells in aspects of structure, technology, optical control and carrier dynamics. The team accumulated plentiful research experiences and made many achievements, and the book,Organic Solar Cell Materials and Devices,is the fruit of their hard work.
The book made a comprehensive review of organic photovoltaic devices in various aspects including the development of organic solar cells, physical basis, donor and acceptor materials, device structure and device performance of organic solar cells. The book focused on the team’s achievements in optical control, exciton separation and charge transportation of organic solar cells, and systematically described ideas and approaches of obtaining effective and stable organic solar cells. Academician Hao Yue said, “This book describes comprehensively the photoelectric physics, material properties, device mechanism and realization methods of organic materials, which can not only be used as a basic introduction to organic solar photovoltaic books, but also as a reference for related research.”
It is known that apart from organic solar cells, Dr. Xi He’s team also accumulated plentiful research experiences and made many achievements in solar cells based-on crystalline silicon, perovskite andlamination, independently designed and builtresearch and development platform ofhotovoltaic devices containing functions such as theoretical calculation, material growth, device preparation and characterization, as well as personnel training system, providing a strong support for the development of new semiconductor photovoltaic materials and devices as well as the development of photovoltaic power generation technology.
