(Correspondent: Zhao Binzheng) Recently,Chemical Reviews (Impact Factor is 54.3),top journal of the American Chemical Society, reportedDisease Detection with Molecular Biomarkers: From Chemistry of Body Fluids to Nature-Inspired Chemical Sensors, a systematic review ofchemical sensors written by Associate Professor Wu Weiwei of Xidian University (Communication Unit) and ProfessorHossam Haick’s research team. This work was jointly completed by theSchool of Advanced Materials and Nanotechnology,School ofPioneering Interdiscipline,Israel Institute of Technology, Northwestern Polytechnical University and Sun Yat-sen University.
Chemical sensors have been widely concerned by the scientific and industrial circles since they came into being. They have great potential in application in fields ofenvironment monitoring, disease diagnosis, health monitoring, public security, robots, agricultural production andfoodengineering, especially play an important role indisease diagnosis and health monitoring. The key challenges are how to realize high sensitivity, high selectivity, fast response/response time, and long term stability. The combination ofbionics and engineering provides a great opportunity for further development of chemical sensors. It is an inspiration to developchemical sensors by studying interaction between chemical substances and biosensor receptors, structure of biological sensory organs and working process of biological sensory organs.
For the current situation and further development, the article reviewed chemical sensors, bionics and their applications in health from the following aspects: 1) Itgives an updated compilation of the biomarkers linked with specific sickness and/or sampling origin; 2) It gives an updated compilation of using sensing receptorin living organisms to improvechemical sensing performance; 3) Itgives an updated compilation of using bionics to improvesensing performance; 4) Itgives an updated compilation of mimicking the working process ofbiological sense organs to put artificial chemical sensor into healthThe author deliberated the challenges of applications of bionic chemical sensor, such as how to improve sensitivity, how to increase selectivity, how to fuse data. The author also pointed out possible solutions and future development trend.
Relative Introduction:
Chemical Reviews, which shorthand is Chem. Rev. and Chinese name is “Hua Xue Ping Lun”, was established by the American Chemical Society in 1924. It is a top review journal on chemistry and materials and its impact factor is 54.3 in 2019.
To meet the strategic demand of the national medium and long term development plan andMade in China 2025,Pioneering Interdiscipline Research Center of Intelligent Sensing, is supported bythe advantageous disciplines of Xidian University, relying onSchool of Advanced Materials and Nanotechnology, andSchool ofPioneering Interdiscipline, closely links with international sensing devices research laboratories. In view of problems of basic science and application technology existing in sensing technology, around the first-class disciplines such as materials science and engineering, electronic science and technology, biomedical and engineering, instrument science and technology, physics and other first-class disciplines, Pioneering Interdiscipline Research Center of Intelligent Sensing makes innovation in the system and mechanism, builds interdisciplinary, international and high-level research team, cultivates innovative talents, enhances the original innovation ability, and improves the overall basic research ability to develop the basic theory and technology research in fields of artificial olfaction and artificial touch involved materials, microelectronics, artificial intelligence, mechanics and optics, and builds itself into a world-class research level basic research institute of intelligent sensing with distinctive interdisciplinary characteristics.
