(Correspondent Xiaoxuan Duan) In order to train innovative talents with an international horizon, Xidian University, in conjunction with Hanyang University, set up the "2018 Hanyang University’s Summer Camp for Undergraduates”, which was responsible by the School of Advanced Materials and Nanotechnology of Xidian University, for outstanding undergraduates to visit and exchange in Hanyang University. The 19-member delegation of the School of Advanced Materials and Nanotechnology for summer visit to Hanyang University, spent half a month on the "Hanyang University’s Summer Camp" with nearly 200 campers from all over the world since July 28. Students lived and studied together in Hanyang University, to experience the environment of teaching and scientific research fully, comprehensively and deeply, and feel the atmosphere of study and life.

Experiencing a variety of classes, appreciating the master's elegant demeanor

Hanyang University offered five course directions (Engineering, Business, Culture Contents, Design and Korean studies) depending on students’ personal learning goals, interests and professional backgrounds. The students participating in the program could choose a course to study. In the course of Understanding K-Pop Industry in the direction of Culture Contents, Professor IIdong Joe invited his musician friends, including the lead singer of a famous rock band and employees of S.M. Entertainment, to show and popularize the current development of Korean music to the students, and gave three special lectures. In the course of Interior Design Project in the direction of Design, Professor Minsoo Lee not only explained the ideas of architecture, but also instructed students to decorate the perimeter and interior of the building using professional software. Teaching professors included Dean of the School of Business of Hanyang University, editor-in-chief of “MUSIC”, professor from a former well-known American university, professional designer and K-Pop freelance music critic.

Visiting well-known experimental centers, promoting in-depth cooperation between the two sides

Apart from courses learning, the visiting delegation of the School of Advanced Materials and Nanotechnology went to Hanyang University's Seoul Campus for an academic visit to the research group of Professor Tae Whan Kim of Hanyang University. Under the leadership of Dr. Wu Chaoxing, they visited the Experimental Center to learn about the research progress of the research group. This academic visit would further promote the development and deepening of two-way visits between the School and Hanyang University, striving to establish a comprehensive and multi-channel cooperative relationship.

Zero-distance contact with Korean history and all-round experience of Korean Culture

In addition to courses learning, Hanyang University also organized a wealth of cultural experience programs, including watching special performance of drawing show in Hanyang University, visiting Gangnam District, night tour to Gyeongbokgung Palace, visiting N Seoul Tower and Everland Resort, the fourth largest theme park in the world, etc., to let students experience Korean food and culture extensively.

During the half-month visit in Hanyang University, the students have not only acquired professional knowledge, broadened their thinking and horizons, learned about Korean customs, and harvested international friendship, but also spread the students’ style of Xidian University and Chinese culture to more countries through this summer camp. The School of Advanced Materials and Nanotechnology will continue to promote the process of internationalization, strengthen the building of an international atmosphere, and train outstanding talents with international vision and global competence, so as to promote the University to achieve the goal of "building a first-class university with distinctive characteristics" comprehensively.
